Our Mission

Our mission at Flinders Preschool is to help prepare each individual child for life-long learning and belonging. We nurture children to develop identity, resilience, community, well-being, learning and communication skills.

Our Values

We value the kindergarten experience. The various ways children learn, including individual differences, are always accepted at Flinders Preschool.

We teach children values around respect for self, and others, and the world all around.

About Flinders Kinder

Flinders Kinder has been a much loved part of the local community for over 60 years.

Today the kinder continues to serve the educational needs of young children with a strong connection to the community and teaching by play based learning.

 

Our Kinder’s Environment

Flinders kinder is located on the edge of a large park within a beautiful weatherboard building and established gardens. The space in which the children come to experience our program is filled with natural light, versatile play areas and many nature play opportunities.

Outdoor attractions include our resident chickens, a miniature Flinders general store, cubby trees, an established veggie garden, and a boat.

3 & 4 Year Old Groups

Flinders preschool offers a three and four year old program where children learn & experience success through community, discovery and play.

Our unique beach kinder program is only offered to the 4 year old group.

Kindergarten Years Focus

  • Close relationships with each child and their family
  • Indoor/ Outdoor Program which allows children time and space to explore
  • Integrated music program
  • We embrace indigenous culture and learning with a specific program and also celebrate diversity by acknowledging significant dates such as Diwali, Harmony Day, International Children’s
  • Close links with the Flinders community, including ANZAC day, Community Walk, ART show
  • Belonging to the community of children and families
  • Optional extra kindergarten community events.

Vision statement

Flinders Preschool is committed to building reconciliation by embedding a strong practice of education for our children, parents and educators. We will learn from and acknowledge the past, actively and positively move forward by respectfully embracing Torres Strait and First Nations culture, incorporating  cultural perspectives into emerging programs.

We are committed to:

  • Building strong respectful relationships with our local Bunurong/ Boon Wurrung community
  • Advocating for equality, equity and positive change
  • Embrace diversity as the norm
  • Work collaboratively with local and broader community to become culturally competent and develop a strong knowledge based practice
  • Make an ongoing commitment to oversee, entrench and respect country encouraging children to adopt these practices for a more sustainable future.
